View Full Version : BBC: Can I Get High Legally?
Next on:
Thursday, 21:00 on BBC Three
Documentary in which George Lamb dives into the world of legal party pills and herbal highs.
Legal highs are sold openly and legally in shops across the UK and on the internet. There are thousands of different pills, powders and herbs that promise the same effects as illegal drugs, but for much less hassle - no arrests for possession and no backstreet dealers to visit.
Lamb sets out to discover why they are legal and whether this means they can also be called safe. He meets people who take them, a man who sells them and a doctor who says they are potentially more dangerous than class A drugs. He travels to Guernsey, where most of the young people he meets have tried them, and finally decides to try one for himself.
They might be legal and easily accessible, but should they be used? This film presents all the information needed to make a decision.

He tried salvia 5x. He did get something off it which i am surprised about!
There was a lot of coverage of various spice blends, skunk a new breed of weed, various party pills, snow blow, toot and charge got a mention, meph, butylone and methylone had a 10 min segment.
They mentioned the mephedrone "death" in sweden, and also showed footage of people who ended up with parkinsons after eating MPTP in the 70s. Was horrible footage but to me it was totally unnessecery as it almost seemed like he was trying to say "this is whats going to happen to you" rather than actualy state the facts.

If that surprises you, I get off on plain leaf. 5x would be moderate to strong for me. 10x would be out of this world.
EDIT: I would probably die of a heart attack from something like 80x.

Haha well i havent tried plain leaf, i have known someone who gets something from it though.
Suppose it depends on the quality of the extract too. The one he tried looked like one of those cheapy extracts.
I got next to nothing up to 20x where i did feel the effects fairly strongly. 30x gave me the strongest lucid visuals but i have also tried 50x.
Watched the doc. Don't like it. You folks in Europe advertise your legals like they're candy. Plus I generally didn't like the mindsets and viewpoints of most of the people being interviewed, as most of them were clearly being manipulated by the interviewer. Seems like the BBC directed this so the topic can gain as much negative attention as possible.

Then why is it that EU, particularly the UK gets so much media attention?

I thought the video of the people with parkinsons symptoms was a cheap shot. Like showing someone a video of someone with e coli and saying "that's what'll happen to you if you eat food".

I agree about the MPTP guys - that was pretty shitty of them. But then again, so was the entire program.

I thought it was actually quite a balanced program, i mean they were NEVER going to say that legals=safe and from my own and others experience they most definately aren't.
They even stuck up for them when compared to the average Daily Fail reader (read snooty stuck up bitch who worked in a pub selling alcohol!), a few inaccuracies aside it was one of the most interesting pieces of journalism i've seen on the matter, anyway , LINE TIME:D

Baring in mind an intolerance is built with repeated Salvia use...basically meaning the more you do, the harder it will fuck ya up!
I remember I got high on my first time with 5x, it was my most intense salvia trip ive had too and I only smoked about 150-200mg in a pipe.

ok, I just watched that video... Um... couple comments for those of you that had seen it... or will or are. w/e. That video of "random concoctions" (wow, i actually liked the guy until eh showed this) The video of "parkinsons like" symptoms are victims of an underground crystal meth experiment gone wrong. I watched it in one of my health classes... So ummm. based on the fact that he manipulated that. I wouldn't really trust most of what he says on the video to be true. Also. That experiment gone bad led to the first breakthroughs in Parkinsons research. So. um... Ya... He still has a cool accent though. but what a douche.

Im from guernsey. it aint anything like that now all imports and exports of certain chemicals have been banned. It takes the piss as barely any illegal substance is available on the island and if it is its stupidly expensive. The states have made there money out of us and now left us high and dry with no drugs!!!

i agree with this... kinda. I wouldn't say it's entirely balanced (it definitely has a boas towards the negatives) but at the same time, the current stuff out there is all positive - as someone said it's promoted like candy.
I've experienced legals and illegals and recently have favoured the former purely for the fact that I can't be prosecuted for it. However, as George Lamb said many people see "legal" as synonymous with "safe". Particularly in the case will party pills and powders this is just not true - seems kind of obvious but I guess some people aren't too switched on.
Anyway, what prompted me to write this was an online help chat I had with an employee of a legal high online shop, one which I hadn't used before but offer a lot of bath salts which get around the new law passed on them. I ordered some, a new strain of Charge (now called Charged), and it didn't resemble the original at all; stuck together in flakes a lot more and the oxidised bits at the top were browny red. I asked about this, saying "as always i will take responsibly, but can you explain this? is it normal for the new version to look like this? i don't really want to wind up dead". Fair point I thought. The response I got? "Don't worry, they're safe. I have taken it myself."
I realise this is in context, but for someone to outright say that this is safe is so rediculous. Needless to say, I'm not using this website again... I'll be going back to my original one. At least they don't act like it's nothing harmful! As far as I'm concerned, say it as it is and let people make they're own choice which is what (I think) this documentary was going for. Don't claim something packed with chemicals is safe!!! Arrrghhh!

As I watched the documentary I think it's kinda bias. It's like more of the point of are negative. Maybe they should balance this so people will know the other side of the news.
