i have a problem where i dont' talk to people. i just zone out and dont' feel like talking when i'm around them. i dont' usually feel that uncomfortable when i do it.
i don't think it's shyness...i've tried getting drunk before interacting iwht people, and it just made me even more reserved and happy to be left alone.
this problem has had bad effects on my life.
i was wondering about oxytocin. i've read a bit online about it...apparently it increases empathy and things...there was something about it being given to autistic people, and it helping them to interact
thoughts?
it doesn't look like cheap stuff...so if you have a better suggestion, i'd be happy to hear it

I opened a thread about this stuff in the RC section, seems like no one has tried...
What I put together searching on the web is that:
- there are strong scientific proofs that it works increasing emphaty
- but all the guys who actually tried on forums (there's something on bluelight) have been disappointed and claim it doesn't work
- there's a lot of websites selling it that smell of scam: like "this is liquid confidence, buy it and your job will improve, you'll find a partner, etc etc"
My opinion is that oxytocin is involved in the empathy creation process but it's not the only thing, and probably doesn't work alone. I'd surely like to give it a try, but I'm not that willing to buy it from the "liquid confidence" websites for a hundred bucks.
there are other things you can use to increase empathy, but no daily use, so don't think they fit your situation...

I find a great help for confidence the use of Pregabalin, also a very enjoyable drug, usually I have about 225 - 300 mg. during the day. So give it a try and lets see...

I found "Loop 2" party pills set off something in my brain that made me much more outgoing and chatty than usual.

hellohello, I read your post regarding oxytocin and I have really good news for you. I am in the same boat- I absolutely hate talking infront of people and most social situations drive me insane. I have delt with this my whole life. I also deal with very high levels of anxiety. I have tried 3 types of anti-depressants along with another type of medication. I came acrossed a post on craigslist for a medical research study. They were looking for individuals that struggle with anxiety, possible trust issues, and social phobias. I had never heard about oxytocin before this. I was accepted into the study and began a double blind study that lasted about 2 1/2 months. Oxytocin COMPLETELY changed my life while I was took it. Because it was a double blind study and the doctors are to remain nuetral, they could not tell me if they had given it to me or not. I clearly was given the oxy for the first part of the study. Within a week I was able to communicate, laugh, be around people comfortably, and I felt a HUGE relief of anxiety.
The down side is, oxytocin is not aprroved by the FDA. That is why they are working on it and trying to prove the fact that it DOES work on depression, anxiety, and post traumatic syndrome. They are getting close. BEWARE: I have tried to purchase a product on-line that claims that it is oxytocin. Dont by the oxy-accelarator. It is worthless. I have contacted a company in Europe (where it is legal) and they do ship to the US. If you would like more info I would be happy to answer any questions. Hang in there. Trust me, I know what you are going through but it will get better.

That is among its uses...its also important in the love buzz part of MDMA and the bonding between mother and new baby.
Oxytocin can onl be absorbed intrannasally and there are some sprays available. Indeed it has even shown some promise helping mildly autistic people deal with the social aspects of their disability.
However there is nothing on the market for 'self administraion' and so some alcohol containing spray must be used. Its a little unpleasant but may help. Personally I'd recommend taking up martial arts or some like that - its a great help with confidence etc and no one knows the long term consequences of manipulating our oxytocin levels over an extended period.

This wont work, geniuses. I'll explain why because you apparently cannot be bothered to read wikipedia (this is the second thread about this idea)
>Synthetic oxytocin is sold as proprietary medication under the trade names Pitocin and Syntocinon and also as generic oxytocin. Oxytocin is destroyed in the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore must be administered by injection or as nasal spray. Oxytocin has a half-life of typically about three minutes in the blood. Oxytocin given intravenously does not enter the brain in significant quantities - it is excluded from the brain by the blood-brain barrier. There is no evidence for significant central nervous system entry of oxytocin by nasal spray. Oxytocin nasal sprays have been used to stimulate breastfeeding but the efficacy of this approach is doubtful.[53]
- it has to be taken in nasal or IV
- IV oxytocin does not cross the BBB so you will not get any psychoactive effects
dont waste your time with it. honestly its not that hard to understand a wikipedia summary
