I dont understand all the different strains of weed, and the differences and similarites between them. ive smoked my fair share but alot of the people around here rant and rave about white widow super kush ak47 oharre hydro stativa bud. Not really that but thats what I end up hearing.

Is there really so much of a specific differenece in the strains of weed? culd you tell what a strain was just by smokin it without someone telling you?

:D

Yes, there are differences between strains. White Widow, Northern Lights, Sour Diesel these are all sativas which provide and a nice uplifting, sometimes energetic high. The characteristics of these buds are mostly all light green with orange and sometimes yellow hairs. Then there are the hazes, kushes, and cross strains like ak47 etc. that are indicas. Characteristics are dark green buds with dark orange sometimes red hairs. This bud usually gives you more of a punch in the face type stoney high that will have you on your ass.

For the most part I could tell you what kind of bud im smoking but there are times when bud is treated to smell a certain way so that can throw you off sometimes.

yes theyre different, some more than others though, some are barely different. The stuff that goes about the UK all the time is all similar, its mostly uninteresting indica stuff that does the job but makes you more sleepy than anything else.

Compare this to a haze strain, which is uplifting, giggley and it gets you really high instead of really sleepy.

its almost completley different when you look at say, Hindu Kush and Super Silver Haze - miles apart.

I must say to nofx though, White Widow for me anyway, is couchlock mania, the opposite of uplifting. One of the worst for it.

Aye, nofx has a couple crossed wires there. Hazes are almost pure sativa lineage and give forth surging cerebral trippy highs that are awesome for creative exploits, physical activity and stuff like that...

Indica strains like black domina, herijuana are the sort of weed that relaxes your body and sticks you to your sofa for hours. Great for pain relief, relaxation and quiet nights in.

Sativa strains once dried often look ugly compared to the dense crystally buds of indica leaning strains.

As for distinguishing a strain by taste, sight and smoke alone...To be honest even the great weed aficionados won't be able to give you more than a ballpark guess at what sort of strain you are smoking.

The only strain that I have been able to recognize without being told what it is, was Sour Diesel. Great high. I also had a buddy who was a real connoisseur and he walked into our house after we had just smoked some Sour Diesel and was able to identify the strain from that alone.

I feel like most times the names are just gibberish to try and make the weed seem better, even if your getting from a club I use to know people that sold to clubs and they would just make up strain names if they weren't sure what it was.

Agreed, unless you know whos growing it theres only a slim chance you know what it is, dealers make up names, even some of the less good dutch coffeeshops sell generic strains as widow and bubblegum etc.

I would never be able to tell for sure what a strain is, theres so many. Sativa or Indica is obvious but which one actual strain? who knows!
